// 01 — TL;DR
SC Codex doesn't run its own analytics, doesn't require a login, and doesn't sell your data. The only personal data that touches our servers is what your browser sends every time it requests a webpage (your IP address, in server logs). We use Google AdSense to serve ads, which sets cookies and may use behavioral data per Google's own policies. We use Google Fonts for typography. Everything you save (favorites in the Hangar, loadout builds) lives in your browser's localStorage — never sent to us.
// 02 — What We Collect Ourselves
Nothing identifying. No accounts, no email signups, no analytics scripts, no cookies set by us directly.
Our web host (Hostinger) keeps standard server logs for security/abuse purposes: IP address, request path, user-agent, timestamp. These rotate out per Hostinger's retention policy and we don't access or analyze them.
// 03 — What's Stored in Your Browser
Your favorites — saved ships, items, careers in the Hangar feature — are stored locally in your browser's localStorage. They never leave your device. Clear your browser data and they're gone.
Your loadout builds and trade route filter selections are encoded in the URL itself when you copy/share them. Same data principle: stays with you unless you intentionally send it to someone.
// 04 — Third-Party Services
Google AdSense
We use Google AdSense to display ads. This is how the site stays free. Google may:
- Set cookies in your browser to remember your ad preferences and prevent showing the same ad repeatedly
- Use your IP address and previous browsing behavior (per Google's ad personalization settings) to target ads
- Show personalized ads if you've consented globally via Google, or generic ads if you haven't
You can manage your ad personalization at adssettings.google.com at any time. You can also opt out of personalized advertising from many networks at aboutads.info/choices.
Google's full data-handling policy: policies.google.com/technologies/ads
Google Fonts
We load the typefaces Chakra Petch, JetBrains Mono, and Sora from Google Fonts (fonts.gstatic.com). Google may log the request IP and user-agent for its own analytics. They do not set cookies via this service.
Cloudflare (optional, if enabled)
If we route traffic through Cloudflare's CDN, your request hits Cloudflare's edge first. Cloudflare may log the request for security/DDoS purposes and set a __cf_bm bot-management cookie. See cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
External Image Hosts
Ship and item images load from media.starcitizen.tools, fleetyards.net, and storage.fltyrd.net. These hosts see your IP when your browser fetches an image. They do not set cookies on our domain.
// 05 — Cookies Summary
We don't set any first-party cookies. The cookies that may be set on your visit:
- Google AdSense cookies (NID, IDE, others) — for ad personalization and frequency capping
- Cloudflare bot-management cookie (__cf_bm) if served via Cloudflare — security/abuse prevention
If you're in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, we show a consent banner on first visit. Ads will only serve personalized content with your consent. Non-personalized ads still serve if you decline.
// 06 — Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)
If you're in the EU, UK, or California, you have rights including access, deletion, and objection to data processing. Since we collect nothing personally identifying, most of these rights don't apply to us — but they do apply to Google for the ad cookies they set. Contact Google directly at support.google.com/policies to exercise those rights regarding ad data.
// 07 — Children
SC Codex is not directed at children under 13. Star Citizen itself is rated for ages 13+. We don't knowingly collect data from minors.
// 08 — Changes to This Policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. Material changes (new third parties, new data collection) will be flagged in the site header for at least 30 days.
// 09 — Contact
SC Codex is a one-person fan project. For privacy questions, reach out via the project's source repository or community channels (linked in the About page). For ad-specific concerns, Google AdSense is the controller of that data — contact them directly.
